Mangrove: (n.) A slow-growing, medium-sized tree or shrub that grows in coastal areas. Mangroves are tolerant of excessive salinity, and can even develop in brackish and freshwater situations in the aquarium. These bushes, which will need to have their leaves above water, will be trimmed and pruned to develop in an aquarium. Aquarists usually preserve the purple mangrove (Rhizophora mangle) and preserve their roots in advantageous sand or muddy substrate.
